Of course you do. Everyone is on some sort of social media channel &#8211; even your non-tech savvy Grandma.<\/p>\n<p>Simply put, if you\u2019re not using social media to promote your brand, then you\u2019re already at a major competitive disadvantage. Even worse? You\u2019ve already invested in social media and have found that you\u2019re failing miserably.<\/p>\n<p>Why?<\/p>\n<p>It\u2019s most likely because of the following reasons&#8230;<\/p>\n<h2>You Have a Non-Existent Marketing Strategy<\/h2>\n<p>Remember when you started your business? You had a plan in place that was going to guide you in all of your future decisions. In a way, your business plan has been like a road map to success that you\u2019ve turned to ever since.<\/p>\n<p>That same mentality should be used when it comes to your social media strategy. Simply creating a Facebook page isn\u2019t going to cut it. You need to have a game plan in mind. For example, how many new fans do you want to gain in the next three to six months? How much do you want to increase the exposure of tweets in the next six months?<\/p>\n<p>Remember, \u201cfailing to plan, is planning to fail\u201d!<\/p>\n<h2>You\u2019re Using the Wrong Platform<\/h2>\n<p>Where does your audience spend most of their time online? If you\u2019re audience is predominately using Twitter, then why are you wasting your time trying to reach them on Facebook or Pinterest?<\/p>\n<p>Each social media platform has a different audience. And, you want to make sure that you\u2019re on the right platform. Take LinkedIn, for example. It\u2019s primarily used by professionals for networking purposes. If you\u2019re a law firm then it\u2019s a great platform for you to use. But, if you\u2019re a wedding photographer, LinkedIn wouldn\u2019t be as effective as Facebook, Instagram, or Pinterest.<\/p>\n<h2>You\u2019re Not Making Meaningful Connections<\/h2>\n<p>Social media is all about interacting and engaging customers and influencers. This means that you don\u2019t want to create a profile and only appear once in awhile when it\u2019s time to promote a new product, service, or blog post.<\/p>\n<p>Share other people\u2019s content (A good rule of thumb is implementing the 80\/20 Rule &#8211; 80% of your content should be someone else\u2019s and 20% should be self-promotion) . Leave a comment. Ask a question. You need metrics that prove your social media\u2019s ROI.<\/p>\n<p>Keep an eye on your analytics &#8211; <a href=\"https:\/\/www.facebook.com\/help\/search\/?q=insights\" target=\"_blank\">Facebook Insights<\/a>, <a href=\"https:\/\/analytics.twitter.com\/\" target=\"_blank\">Twitter Analytics<\/a>, <a href=\"http:\/\/help.linkedin.com\/app\/answers\/global\/a_id\/26032\/~\/analytics-tab-for-company-pages\" target=\"_blank\">LinkedIn Analytics<\/a> &#8211; to give you an better idea on how your accounts are faring. You can then use some of this data to start measuring your ROI.<\/p>\n<p>Brian Zeng has an excellent 3-Step Process on <a href=\"https:\/\/moz.com\/ugc\/a-3-step-process-to-measure-social-media-roi\" target=\"_blank\">Moz<\/a> that involves;<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Knowing your reach, engagement, traffic, and conversions.<\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Measure your metrics and track your campaigns.<\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Check you results against the goals that you\u2019ve established.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h2>You Haven\u2019t Humanized Your Accounts<\/h2>\n<p>People want connect a brand with a face, or several faces, while on social media. Show a little bit of your personality when updating your channels, share behind the scenes images, profiling yourself yourself or your employees, or hosting Twitter chats.<\/p>\n<h2>You Don\u2019t Have an Effective CTA<\/h2>\n<p>Always include a call-to-action in your social media accounts. Ask people what they thought of your blog article, YouTube video, or infographic. Ask people to share. This means that you should be creating content that your audience will find valuable or entertaining.
